We grow our own food in a suburban village in the North East of England. Follow us as we keep up the battle to be self-sufficient.

Cherry picking
Just back from Clasper Village. No, this is not a rural idyll. It is an urban council estate where Gateshead Council, many years ago, kindly planted a large number of cherry trees. Councils plant trees that look nice in the spring. All that blossom looks lovely but the side effect is a crop of cherries later in the year. It took me about half a hour to pick nearly 2kg. Preserving recipes will be posted soon. We will also be eating some fresh. They're lovely and juicy. Yummie!
