We never allow waste in our house so leftovers are used to make more meals. It can produce some interesting breakfasts - fried up leftover veggie curry, for example. Alas, with this curry, though the vegetables were all locally produced, we had to make a trip to the supermarket for the rice.

A thought on using up leftovers: have you tried making bread of them?
I discovered a "gruel bread" recipe in the Tassajara Bread Book that I had long wanted to try and finally a batch of very disappointing vegetable stew gave me the perfect excuse. The result was wonderful and so simple. Best of all, it changed the flavor of the soup into something actually worth eating. Since then, I've used all sorts of leftovers (like an unbelievable excess of cabbage) to very good effect. Since the dough rises overnight, this recipe is a lovely way to have warm bread for breakfast. It toasts nicely, too.
I cannot find a copy of the recipe online unfortunately but would be glad to share if you wish.
It would be great to share the recipe - feel free to post it on comments.
