Two more lambs have been born this week. They are the last of this spring. So 7 in total, 2 of which are being hand raised. The next arrivals will be in the summer when the Hebrideans are due.
We grow our own food in a suburban village in the North East of England. Follow us as we keep up the battle to be self-sufficient.

The poultry go free range at last!
Last week, the government lifted the requirement to have all poultry caged. The restrictions had been in place since November to reduce the spread of avian flu. They ended a bit earlier this year though avian flu continues to stalk the land. The video above was filmed on the day the poultry was able to go free range again.

Dust bathing hens
Chickens naturally bathe in dust. It helps keep bugs off their feathers. One of their favourites is wood ash. We put it into a tray in one of the chicken runs and they all piled in. If you don't have wood ash, use sawdust or sand.
Roast pork
Our last pork joint having been in one of our freezers for the past year. The start of spring was a good reason to celebrate so we had a bit of a feast with the pork at the centre of it. Fantastic crackling on it.

And the winner is...
I recently ran a competition to name one of my lambs. Members of the public were invited to submit proposed names for this little lady (actually, not so little now) via local residents' Facebook sites. We boiled all the suggestions down to a shortlist of 3 which we announced at the Whickham Library Easter fair on 1st April. Click on the video to find out the 3 names and which one was chosen.
